Technologies Fact Sheets and Reports

Fact Sheets:
- March 2010 - Meeting sustainability objectives - the role of ITS Fact Sheet
This fact sheet presents a discussion on the role of technology in reducing emissions from road based transport, with a particular focus on those measures relevant to the Highways Agency and the Strategic Road Network. - March 2010 - Incident Management the role of Technology Fact Sheet
This Fact Sheet summarises current incident management technologies used throughout the world and highlights recent Research and Development and advances in this field. - February 2010 - Managed Motorways
A summary of the tools for providing managed motorways, a review of non-UK managed motorway schemes, including evaluation evidence from a range of case studies, and a summary of implemented and planned managed motorways in the UK.
Ad-Hoc Reports
Below is a list of Ad-Hoc Reports produced for the ITS Radar Project aiming to provide key information to Highways Agency decision makers and practitioners:
- i2TERN Euro-regional Conference, Dublin - 20/10/05 - This report presents future and present plans for Euro-Regional projects and evaluates past and present pilots.
- ITS World Congress, San Francisco - 07/11/05 - Provides information on ITS work being undertaken and planned for the future within the various regions of the World.
- TRB Annual Meeting, Washington D.C - 22/01/06 - This document summarises some of the papers presented at the 85th Annual TRB Annual Meeting with relevance to topic areas being ‘monitored’ by the ITS Radar Team.
- 11th IFAC Symposium on Control in Transportation Systems - 29/08/06 - The symposium focused on control engineering issues in a range of transport modes (road, rail, air and marine). The presentations were fairly evenly split between results from real world implementations and modelling work. Of particular interest to the Highways Agency were the sessions on freeway monitoring and control, ramp metering, evacuation planning, vehicle control, regional traffic management and network modelling. Call report received with thanks from Keith McCabe.
- ITS World Congress, London - 09/10/06.

Intelligence Reports
Below is a list of Intelligence Reports produced for the ITS Radar Project aiming to provide key information to Highways Agency decision makers and practitioners:
- Developments in Automatic Enforcement Technologies June 2007 - This report describes current applications of technologies and systems for automatic enforcement of traffic violations.
- Congestion Targets and the Role of Technology June 2007 - An intelligence report featuring various schemes that have been implemented around the world on strategic road networks that aim to acheive the governments targets for congestion.
- Environmental Issues Relating to ITS 22-26 January 2006- This document summarises some of the papers presented at the 85th TRB Annual Meeting (held in Washington D.C. between 22nd and 26th January 2006). It particularly focuses on papers that refer to new advances in transport policy and decision making plus example uses of ITS technologies in relation to environmental issues. A summary of each of the chosen papers is provided including a copy of the complete abstract and contact details for the lead author of the paper.
- Tempo Project Results in the Field of Variable Speed Limits June 2007- This report summarises some of the results of evaluation reports for VSL projects carried out across Europe and prepared in TEMPO format. It also gives details ofother projects in this area expected to report their findings in future.
- The Future of ITS 16 August 2006 - This response is a brief beginners guide to the state of the art in ITS and covers its anticipated developments into the twenty first century.
